The International Falls football team is brushing off a tough week three loss to Proctor and looking ahead to Homecoming week.
"We weren't happy with the outcome but we were very happy with the effort," said Jay Boyle, Broncos head coach. "It's a good place to be. We're in a good place going into this week."
There was a pep fest on Monday to get the Bronco spirit flowing, but senior captain Jakob Ettestad says the football team is focused on thier bout with Two Harbors.
"Homecoming week, there's a lot of extracurricular activities going on, but what it all comes down to is that game on Friday," Ettestad said. "Playing under the lights, that's what it's all about."
Football is an important tradition in International Falls, and a longstanding one at that. This year, the Broncos are celebrating their 100th season on the gridiron.
"We've had a lot of good players in recent years and awhile ago," said Ben Humbert, Broncos junior wide receiver and linebacker. "You know, Bronko Nagurski came through here, Frank Youso played for the Giants, he was a big guy. So yeah, a lot of pride in our history."
"It's huge," Ettestad said. "I have three brothers who grew up and played here. It's a really big thing in our family. To be part of it is a pretty big deal."
Boyle says the International Falls community is going all out
"There's a lot of energy behind it. We're doing a lot of extra things," he said.
And they've gotten special recognition from some big names.
"We sent out proclamations to s few people to get signed," Boyle said. "We've gotten some back from the governor, we actually got a very nice letter from Roger Goodell from the NFL commemerating the 100th season of Bronco football up here."
Perhaps the best way to celebrate 100 years is with a successful season, and maybe a homecoming victory.
