This weekend, hot air balloons will fill the sky above Bayfront Festival Park.
'Le Festival des Montgolfieres a Duluth' is French for Duluth Hot Air Balloon Festival. Organizer and president of Kernz & Kompany, Ryan Kern, said the name fits Duluth's strong French heritage.
The festival begins Friday and runs through Sunday. A full weekend schedule can be found here: http://www.kernz.com/balloon/.
Kern says the best part of the festival is that it's free. Visitors can offer a donation to the festival to get put in a drawing for a tethered hot air balloon ride. The deadline for donations is Monday at midnight.
Kern says their most immediate need in preparing for the festival is finding 50 more volunteers to help with the festival.
If you are a member of a civic or non-profit group and your organization is willing to help as a group, the festival will make a donation to those organizations for helping. Kern said individual volunteers will get fed and be assigned with other individuals.
Please call (218) 722-7488 if you are willing to volunteer.
