Superior, Wisc. - It began in 1991 and it reached its 22nd year. It is a rodeo where money goes to charity. From saddle bronc riding to steer wrestling, the Great Northern Classic Rodeo a had a little bit of everything for cowboys and cowgirls who come from across the country, as well as the crowd.
"It has become a tradition and a family tradition and that is what they do. they might not be rodeo people day in and day out, but when it comes rodeo weekend, they hop in their car and come around," says GNC Rodeo Vice President Jesse Larson.
Ask any cowboy or cowgirl if rodeo is easy and they'll shake their head.
"I don't know whether I do it because it is nerve wracking or scary or anything. it takes a lot of heart to do what we do and if you didn't grow up with it, then it is in your blood," says AJ Colletti of Pueblo, Colorado.
"I always like to say a little prayer, do a bunch of stretching and prepare equipment and just kind of get out and have some fun I guess. That's all I do," says Tyler Berghuis of Atwater, Minnesota.
What keeps the cowboys and cowgirls coming back is competition and camaraderie.
"No matter where you go, it is a rodeo family and they are going to help you out with whatever you need, whether it is a meal or a shower or a place to lay your head at night and catch a nap. That is the best part of rodeo, it is one big happy family in the end," says Larson.
