Brush and wood waste from Wisconsin has been banned at the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) to aid in curtailing the spread of the emerald ash borer.
Friday, WLSSD placed an immediate ban on acceptance of brush and wood waste originating from Wisconsin.
In a written statement, Marianna Bohren, the executive director of the the waste center said they had no choice but to place a temporary ban at their facilities to reduce the potential spread of the invasive beetle.
The ban impacts wood waste originating in Wisconsin only. Wisconsin residents are now advised to use brush and wood disposal services at the City of Superior Landfill on Moccasin Mike Road.
The emerald ash borer was found in Superior's north end in the middle of August. Douglas County is under quarantine.
