FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) - A heat wave is cutting into attendance at this year's Great Minnesota Get-Together.
The Minnesota State Fair reports Tuesday's attendance was the lowest in five years, at 94,076 people. The Twin Cities hit 96 degrees Tuesday, and it was plenty steamy.
According to fair records, full-day fair attendance hasn't been as low as Tuesday's since the seventh day of the 2008 fair, when it was 88,228.
Attendance was also down dramatically on Sunday and Monday over the comparable days last year.
The Star Tribune reports many vendors say business is down and they were sending some employees home to spare them the heat and because they simply weren't needed.
But most are optimistic that cooler weather forecast for this weekend during the fair's final days will bring back business.
