Derik Iverson, the director, stopped by to talk to us this morning about his new show, The Comedy of Errors. The show was originally written by Shakespeare, and though the show is modernized, the text is still 99% Shakespeare's.
The show has six musical numbers, 4 of which are current top 20 songs on the radio. "We might have some Daft Punk, some One Direction," Derik said. The production is family friendly. It is very physical, goofy, and has high energy!
It isn't your typical Shakespearean show. "Part of me feels bad when audience members say 'I just don't get Shakespeare'...I think some of that comes from how it's performed." Derik says that his cast is performing Shakespeare in a way that anyone can understand it.
The whole cast is made up of college students. "The cast is absolutely fearless and hilarious, and I am so happy to be working with them."
The Comedy of Errors will be performed at The Underground August 15-17 and 22-24 at 7:30PM. The Underground is located at 506 West Michigan Street in Duluth. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. For more information check out The Underground's website.
