The Burnt Part Boys musical made it's Minnesota debut right here in the Northland on August 8. The director, Peter Froehlingsdorf, joined us to talk about the musical today that is premiering on the Teatro Zuccone stage.
"It's a story about a young boy who loses his father in a mining community." Froehlingsdorf grew up on the Iron Range, and both of his brothers work for MinnTac. He has a personal connection to the story, and really wants to bring that to the stage. He even took his actors up to the Tower-Soudan underground mine to go down into the mine.
This is a family friendly show, though "it does deal with death, but it's done in such a nice way. We talk about family, the importance of family, and about the importance of loving those people around you even when they're gone."
Some of the actors are from UMD, others from the community, and still others preparing to leave the area to study in performing schools. Froehlingsdorf says he feels very fortunate to have worked with all of these actors.
If you want to see it, you haven't missed your chance yet. It runs August 15-17 and August 22-24. All shows run at 8:00PM. You can stop in at Teatro Zuccone or call 218-336-1414 for ticket information.
