The Carlton County Fair is fast approaching and this year their theme is "Wow the Crowd."  And they're hoping to do that with great entertainment, activities and attractions.  It all starts Thursday, August 15 and runs through Sunday, August 18.

This will be the 123rd year of the fair and it's still going strong being the only County Fair in Minnesota to offer horse races!

The gates officially open Thursday, August 15 at 11 a.m.  However, fun for the 4-Hers starts Tuesday.  Fair manager Allysha Sample says Carlton County has a huge 4-H program with a great group of kids and parents.

Kids and teens will start entries and setting up Tuesday, August 13 at the fair grounds in Barnum.  They'll enter and be judged in art, photography, woodworking and more.  Then Wednesday more 4-Hers will be back to show off their talents in horticulture, baking and canning, and flowers.  It's a great opportunity for them to show off what they've been working on all summer, Sample says.

Thursday kicks off the fair for everyone with gates opening at 11 a.m.  Fair goers can check out the Tractor Pull that night along with great entertainment and of course the carnival.

Friday is Senior Day at the Carlton County Fair with the presentation of thier year's outstanding senior citizens.  That will also feature the fantastic band 'Sentimental Journey'. Friday night is also when the oval races are run.

Saturday is Military Day at the fair, and those in the active military will receive free admission. The only horse races at a Minnesota county fair are held at the Carlton County Fair on Saturday, and the figure eight races will be run Saturday night at the grandstand.

Sunday features horse races also and in the evening will be the demolition derby.

The Stipe Shows Carnival will be on the grounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Wristbands will be available.  There will also be a petting zoo, and old west show, a general store, blacksmith, many barns, great food, and much more.
