For the past six years area motorcyclist have joined together for a 100 mile bike ride to help out veterans around the Northland.  This year, however, they're making their fundraising efforts a bit more personalized.

On Saturday, July 20, bikers will take off from the 3rd Base in Carlton for the annual Spirit of Service ride.  This year, they're doing it for Aaron Dittberner who was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.  The money will go to support his fight against it.

"He's going though chemo through the end of November, which I believe, is about $20,000 a treatment," Spirit of Service President JoAnn Cooper said. "So, we wanted to do the ride for him this year."

This ride has raised more than $30,000 over the past five events and Cooper says it continues to grow each year.  It's really a chance to get out and get involved.

"It's a way for people who don't normally get involved in volunteer to do something and it means a lot to them," she said.

The ride kicks off in Carlson with stops at Nickerson Bar and Ringers in Askov where lunch will be provided by Coopers Dent repair.  Then it's on to the Embassy and Park Lake Resort.  The ride ends back at the 3rd Base in Carlton where folks will be treated to an auction and dinner.

Cooper says there are a lot of great prizes at the auction including some hotel stays, trips and even a golf package.

Everyone is welcome and there's no need for a motorcycle.  You can take the bus for the same price.  The minimum donation is $25 per person or $40 per couple.  All of the proceeds will go the help Aaron Dittberner offset medical costs.

You can also donate to help Aaron Dittberner with the Aaron Dittberner Benefit Fund at Wells Fargo.  All contributors will be recognized throughout the event.  Those who donate $200 or more will have their name added to the T-shirt listing co-sponsors.
