A Duluth felon faces federal charges following the unsealing of an indictment Tuesday, according to the United States District Attorney's Office in Minneapolis.
A news release says 34-year-old Elfred William Petruk is charged with carjacking, conspiracy to possess methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Prosecutors say the indictment alleges that Petruk took a truck by force in June of 2012, conspired with others to possess methamphetamine, and at one point possessed with the intent to distribute five or more grams of the drug. It also alleges that Petruk possessed a semi-automatic pistol in December of 2012.
Petruk has an extensive criminal history dating back 18 years, according to the Minnesota Trial Court Public Access website.
