MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) - Leaders of states who have battled in court over Asian carp are meeting at a Michigan resort to seek common ground on how to prevent more invasive species from reaching the Great Lakes.

The issue is among several up for discussion at a meeting of the Council of Great Lakes Governors on Mackinac Island, which began Friday and ends Sunday. Four governors are scheduled to attend: Rick Snyder of Michigan, Pat Quinn of Illinois, Mike Pence of Indiana and Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

Ohio, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania are sending representatives. Also attending are officials from the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

Snyder told reporters there may be private talks about the contentious issue of Asian carp but he's also hoping for agreement on broader invasive species policy.
