MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Supporters of Stevens Point-based Skyward are celebrating a vote by the Legislature's budget committee that would benefit the information system company.

The Joint Finance Committee voted 14-2 on Wednesday to essentially undo a contract won by Minnesota's Infinite Campus to run a statewide student information system. Instead, multiple companies including Skyward could provide the services.

Infinite Campus chief operating officer Eric Creighton calls the committee's action "outrageous" and the result of "strong-arm political tactics." He says it sets a dangerous precedent for all future state contracting.

Both Democrats and Republicans say the move will help keep the company and its 290 jobs in Wisconsin.

Skyward vice president Ray Ackerlund says the company is "very excited about what happened."
