A Lester Park Elementary School teacher is the recipient of the 2013 Goldfine Gold Star Teacher Award.

Carol Hubert was announced as the winner during a reception Wednesday evening. She was given a trophy and a check for $5,000, according to the Duluth School District.

The district said Hubert has been with the Duluth School District for 27 years and teaches first grade. In the nomination materials, Lester Park Principal Bonnie Wolden said "Hubert believes all her children can learn and she proves it every day. She is passionate about children and about the teaching profession."

Nine Duluth Public School elementary teachers were nominated for the award based on several criteria, including impact in the classroom, school and community, and their efforts to pursue professional development, according to the district.

Carol Hubert was selected for the award by committee through a competitive application process.

The district said Manley and Lillian Goldfine established a fund for the Gold Star Teacher Award in 2006 through the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, to honor inspirational teachers for their dedication, skills and hard work.
