MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The high school hockey player paralyzed by a hit during a junior varsity game in 2011 has been selected by the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League draft.
Jack Jablonski sent out a tweet on Monday that reminded the USHL that he was eligible for the draft. The Steel responded Tuesday night at the very end of the draft when they selected Jablonski. The Star Tribune reports the Steel calls Jablonski an inspiration for his work ethic and passion as he works through rehabilitation.
Jablonski was a junior at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School when he was checked from behind and went head-first into the boards in a game against Wayzata in St. Louis Park.
