TULSA, Okla. (AP) — It's had success hosting a major fishing tournament. Now Oklahoma's second-largest city is dreaming a little bigger.
The U.S. Olympic Committee recently asked 35 cities if they'd be interested in hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics. Most were major metropolitan areas, but Tulsa was among the smaller invited cities.
Local officials acknowledge the idea is a bit far-fetched. But they say hosting the Olympics would dispel the notion that Tulsa is a "flyover, Dust Bowl town."
The city is home to about 400,000 people. It would have a lot of work to do to even meet the USOC's standards. That includes adding some 32,000 hotel rooms and building an Olympic stadium.
The USOC says 10 cities have said they're looking into a bid.
