UMD's Large Lake Observatory opened their research vessel, the Blue Heron, up to the public for what they're calling Science Fridays.
The Large Lake Observatory, or LLO, will be offering presentations on their work the last Friday of every month through October.
The Blue Heron is the largest university-owned research vessel in the Great Lakes, and the Heron's location provides for some prime research material.
"Because we live on Lake Superior, and we have the largest freshwater lake, we have the most advanced and extensive research in the country," said Lisa Sandberg, a ship steward on the Blue Heron.
The next Science Friday is set to take place on May 31st. The topic will be "Impact of the 2012 Flood on Lake Superior," featuring Dr. Elizabeth Minor's research. The Blue Heron will be tied up behind the Great Lakes Aquarium.
