Leaders in the energy industry say creating thousands of jobs in the Midwest can be done by expanding the use of plant material as fuel.
An energy source called Biomass is the focus of a conference happening at the Black Bear Casino Thursday and Friday.
Biomass is a plant-based material that is used to heat homes and businesses. Earthtech Energy President and CEO Gregg Mast said the expansion of the industry in the Midwest would create 13,000 jobs, and 200,000 more jobs indirectly.
"We're gaining momentum as an industry and it is critical that we provide education and outreach so that people can understand where they're getting their heat, and that biomass could certainly be part of that equation," Mast said.
The conference features more than 30 exhibits.
