Duluth native Kara Goucher finished sixth in the women's race at the 2013 Boston Marathon and was in a nearby hotel with her family when they heard the explosions from the finish line.
Last night, Goucher spoke with the Track and Field website, Flotrack and says she was saddened by the events, but commended the bravery of police and volunteers.
"If you saw any of the footage, the faces of volunteers and the police, they acted so quickly. They ran straight toward the smoke. Nobody was running away, like oh my gosh, this is happening. Everybody was running toward it, helping people and everyone should be commended. No one was thinking of themselves, they were thinking of other people and helping other people. It is just amazing," says Goucher.
