UMD's radio show, "The Basement," which airs on KUMD, was selected by MTVu for the a new program called College Radio Countdown. MTVu is a sister station to the popular music channel MTV.
Three times a day, from March 26-April 1, KUMD will be featured on MTVu with a ten minute music video countdown by local and Minnesota bands.
"It's some local, Minnesota acts, regional acts as well as newer artists that are coming on the scene, and artists that have stood the test of time, said Sam Ginsberg, Assistant Marketing Director at KUMD.
Ginsberg said some of the local acts you can expect to hear include: Duluth's Trampled by Turtles, Polica of Minneapolis and Bon Iver of Eau Claire, Wis.
On Tuesday night, KUMD held a premier party of the show to celebrate their national exposure. Each daily segment opens with a one minute video created by a KUMD production team back in January.
"In that minute, we give as much information as we can. It's a very good representation of UMD, KUMD, and the Duluth community as a whole. It's really to represent Duluth, and tell the world what were all about and what we enjoy as far as music goes," Ginsberg said.
