The Mesabi Miner, loaded with coal, left under the Aerial Lift Bridge Wednesday morning. She's headed to Marquette, Michigan.
This signals the beginning of the 2013 shipping season for the Twin Ports.
According to the Seaway Port Authority, the Miner will return this weekend to load iron ore pellets bound for Indiana Harbor.
The Soo Locks officially open on the 25th.
Adolph Ojard, Executive Director of the Port Authority, said he expects a strong 2013.
