Duluth, Minn. - That's the scenario the University of Minnesota Duluth will be facing for the second straight year in 2013 as all 11 games on its regular season football schedule will count in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings.
The Bulldogs, who were 10-2 overall one year ago and captured a fifth consecutive NSIC North Division championship, will launch their 81st year of intercollegiate competition and put their 39-game NSIC home winning streak on the line on Sept. 7 with a first-ever clash against the University of Sioux Falls. The Cougars posted a 9-2 record their NSIC debut last fall.
The following week (Sept. 14), UMD will take on Upper Iowa University in the first of six regular season road assignments before returning to James S. Malosky Stadium seven days later for a showdown with defending NSIC overall champion and 2012 NCAA semifinalist Minnesota State University-Mankato.
Other teams paying visits to Duluth this fall include St. Cloud State University (Homecoming on Oct. 5), which handed UMD its only regular season loss of 2012, Minot State University (Oct. 19) and the University of Minnesota-Crookston (Senior Day on Nov. 2). Among the marquee road matchups for the Bulldogs is a Sept. 28 showdown with Wayne State College, a 2011 NCAA II playoff participant.
First-year head coach Curt Wiese and the Bulldogs, who have secured a berth in the NCAA II playoffs in each of the past five seasons, open spring practice on April 1 and will hold their annual Maroon-White Game on April 26 at Malosky Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
