Hayward Wins First State Championship

The Hayward/Spooner girls returned to the Northland with a state championship trophy in tow.
The Lady Canes defeated Onalaska 5-2 in the WIAA state championship game in Madison on Saturday afternoon.
Meredith Ingbretson led the Hayward squad with a hat trick, the final goal of which was a shorthanded one. Onalaska rallied in the second period, closing the gap to two goals, but Annika Neerdaels slammed the door with a third period score.
This is the Lady Canes' first ever state championship.
