One hundred and twenty-five years ago, the sisters of St. Scholastica's Monastery opened their doors to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
On Thursday, employees were thanked for their hard work at the hospital.
St. Mary's Hospital first started in Duluth's West End, and eventually moved to Duluth's downtown in 1898.
Sister Kathleen Hofer reflects that, 125 years later, the hospital is still in the forefront.
"It's a good time to just help everyone in Duluth know that we're still here. We're a large, proud Catholic facility and we appreciate all the support we've always gotten from the people of Duluth," Hofer, Chair of the Board for Essentia Health East Region, said.
Hofer also said this celebration is fitting because they even admitted their first patients in the month of February back in 1898.
