A 30-year-old man is dead after apparently taking his own life in the St. Louis County Lockup facility in Hibbing.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says that after an initial investigation, Shane Ervin Fisher attempted suicide minutes after a routine checkup by jail staff.
Fisher was booked into Hibbing Lockup at 2:13 a.m. Sunday morning after being arrested on charges of DWI, Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, First and Fourth Degree Assault for attempting to disarm a Minnesota State Patrol Trooper.
Hibbing Fire and Ambulance responded to the 72-hour holding facility around 7:05 a.m. but were not able to revive Fisher. St. Louis County officials say that he died of apparent asphyxiation.
