A 26-year-old Superior man is in custody for allegedly setting a dumpster on fire in Duluth's Lincoln Park neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
According to the Duluth Police Department, authorities responded to the report of a structure fire at Peerless Auto Body, at 1718 West 1st Street at 3:15 a.m. Police say emergency responders arrived and found a large dumpster on fire nearby.
Police say officers were able to follow footprints from the dumpster that led them to a male standing in front of a bar in the 2000 block of West Superior Street. According to police "his footwear and the footprints appeared to match."
The man was arrested for an outstanding warrant for damage to property in St. Louis County. During the warrant arrest he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, according to police.
Police say arson investigators followed up and conducted an origin and cause arson investigation for the dumpster fire and found it to be set intentionally.
The man is being held at the St. Louis County jail for the warrant and pending formal charges of 3rd Degree Arson and 5th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance.
