How are you when it comes to spelling?
Kids from 12 Catholic schools from all around the Duluth Diocese took part in a spelling bee Monday.
Just like the upcoming Super Bowl, which pits two brothers against each other, the Division I contest, for grades 5-8, narrowed down participants and ultimately pitted two brothers from Brainerd against each other.
The winner was Oliver Knudson, grade 6 from St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School. His older brother, Theodore Knudson, grade 8. was runner-up.
In the younger Division II contest for grades 3 and 4 the winner was Griffin Bahr, grade 4 from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Grand Rapids. The runner-up was Tatijana Krasaway, grade 4, from Assumption Catholic School in Hibbing.
WDIO News personalities Renee Passal and Darren Danielson were this year’s spelling bee announcers.
Other schools participating were:
Duluth Area Catholic Schools (Holy Rosary, St. James, St. John's, St. Michael's Lakeside, and St. Rose in Proctor)
- Assumption School, Hibbing
- Marquette School, Virginia
- Queen of Peace School, Cloquet
- St. Joseph's School, Grand Rapids
- St. Mary's School, Pine City
