EVELETH, Minn.— Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) Commissioner Tony Sertich announced that the agency’s 2011-2012 Biennial Report is now available.
The report recaps agency accomplishments in the areas of business, community and workforce development by highlighting several successful projects and initiatives. Sertich said that the agency’s work over the past two years coordinates well with Governor Mark Dayton’s priorities for job creation and economic growth.
“I am proud to report that we have helped bring thousands of jobs to northeastern Minnesota through our grant and loan programs,” said Sertich. “These projects and initiatives are making a real difference in the lives of the people in our region.”
Specifically, IRRRB has assisted businesses and communities in creating more than 1,375 permanent and 1,675 construction jobs. The $43.7 million in loan and grant investments has leveraged $241.8 million in partner funds. I
RRRB has implemented several reform efforts in the past two years. Led by employees and stakeholders, a strategic realignment of agency workforce and financial resources has increased efficiencies.
Employee and stakeholder assessments at Giants Ridge in Biwabik and at the Mining and Reclamation facility in Chisholm are producing actions that reduce waste, save money and deliver better services.
In an effort to improve public transparency, the agency’s new website features an online database of all agency-funded grant and loan projects.
A series of listening sessions and an open house for public officials also have improved the agency’s transparency with the public.
Sertich said, “These efforts will be ongoing. We will continue to look for ways to innovate and improve our work and better serve the public.”
