The Gary New Duluth Veterans Memorial is looking for the publics help. Organizers completed the final list of names for the new monument, but are looking for public input to make sure all names are there and accurate.
The new bronze plaques will soon be cast. So, folks in charge on the memorial would like folks to review the names of veterans one last time to ensure accuracy and spelling. The deadline for corrections in January 31.
The new monument will include the names of veterans who served during WWII, Korea, the Vietnam (December 11, 1961 – April 30, 1975), Gulf (Desert Shield / Storm August 7, 1990 – April 11, 1991), Iraq (March 20, 2003 - December 18, 2011) and Afghanistan (October 7, 2001 - ongoing).
It will include veterans from the far west communities of Gary New Duluth, Riverside, Smithville, Morgan Park, Fond du Lac and Oliver, Wisconsin.
Organizer Mark Boben says that the names on the original veterans memorial built in 1952 will not be duplicated in the new monument.
You can check out the Gary New Duluth Veterans Memorial Facebook site for the full list of names and additional information on the original monument.
