A Head Start student was left on a bus for hours in Monday's frigid temperatures. Leaders of the Fond du Lac Band of Chippewa Indians are trying to figure out how it could have happened.
Band officials provided some information about the incident and their response to it on Tuesday.
Band officials said the bus driver and bus monitor involved have been suspended pending an investigation into the incident.
That is after a child never made it to his Head Start classroom on the Fond du Lac Reservation near Cloquet.
According to band officials the 3-year-old student was left on a bus in Monday's single-digit temperatures.
Officials said a transportation employee found him knocking on a bus window and still buckled into a child safety seat.
His mother then took him to a local hospital where he was warmed up for a few hours and released.
Officials said the band does run its own transportation service, and the band's procedures strictly require that buses be checked for children after each run.
