JoyGlobal's new facility in Virginia has been years in the making. And now, it's open.
The mining vendor provides and services major mining equipment, like shovels that are as big as a house.
So the new facility is very large, 92,000 sf, and is designed to be state-of-the-art. It also has safety upgrades.
In fact, it has become the blueprint for future JoyGlobal buildings around the world.
The company invested $22 million dollars into the project, which had been delayed by the recession. But now that it's here, they are ready for the future.
"We built this so we could possibly expand," said Director of Operations, Lloyd Younger. "We also made it as efficient as possible. And this is going to be the model for future JoyGlobal buildings around the world. Even the paint colors are being recorded for future use."
And General Manager Tim Hartnett said, "We at JoyGlobal are setting a new standard for the mining community."
JoyGlobal used to be called P&H Minepro and has had a presence on the Iron Range for 75 years.
They currently employ 75 people, and have fulfilled the requirement of adding 20 jobs in 5 years, that came along with the infrastructure incentives.
