MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) - Voyageurs National Park officials will hold a public meeting in the Twin Cities this weekend to discuss their proposal to launch a campsite reservation system and start charging fees for overnight stays.
The forum is set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Maple Grove Parks and Recreation Community Center.
The only access to campsites at Voyageurs is by boat, and they're first-come, first-served. Park officials hope the certainty of a reservation system will bring in new users who won't currently consider camping there.
Voyageurs officials plan a similar meeting in Duluth, but have not yet set a date. Park officials also have created a phone number (218-283-6708) for the public to call and express their concerns or support for reservations and campsite fees.
