Fans of the radio show and Minnesota staple, "A Prairie Home Companion," may enjoy this unique spin the UMD theater department put on a holiday classic, "It's a Wonderful Life."
Director Lee Gundersheimer and Paul Lanave, who plays the iconic role of George Bailey, stopped by Good Morning Northland Wednesday to talk about the new production.
What makes this very different from the movie is that it will be performed in the style of an old time radio show. Gundersheimer said that recording of the radio show will take place in the 1950s, around the time the film was originally released.
Also unique to this production, the actors will be playing multiple roles. Lanave said however, he will be playing the lead character. But he will voice him as a boy and as an adult.
"It's a Wonderful Life" opens at UMD's Marshall Performing Arts Center Thursday at 7:30 p.m. It will be performed Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 and Dec. 5 - 8, also at 7:30 p.m.
There is a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 for those who are hearing or visually impaired.
