A teenager and is the second suspect in the death of a Floodwood woman whose body was found on the Fond du Lac Reservation last week.
Joseph Yellow, 17, of Duluth faces a charge of second-degree murder. Another suspect in the death, 22-year-old Michael William Siewert, also appeared in court Thursday afternoon to face a second-degree murder charge. Siewert was already in jail facing charges in another case.
Siewert and Yellow are suspected in the death of Cristyna Watson, 25, who hadn't seen her family in nearly a month when authorities found her body outside at a residence on Reservation Road on Oct. 4. Police said she died from "homicidal violence."
The owner of the property where Watson's body was found, Clifford Thompson, is charged with aiding an offender. Alyssa Peterson, 24, was also charged with aiding an offender. There is no indication that either Thompson or Peterson knew a murder had occurred.
Law enforcement said Siewert is a known member of the Native Mob Gang, which Cloquet Police Chief Wade Lamirande said is increasingly becoming a problem on the Fond du Lac Reservation.
