People March To End Violence on Fond Du Lac Reservation

People gathered on the Fond Du Lac Reservation near Cloquet to protest violence and drugs in their community. They marched through town holding signs to raise awareness about this growing problem.
"I just want it all to stop," Tanisha Martineau said. "I don't feel safe anymore."
About 50 people participated in the march and organizers said the rally was meant to raise awareness. This march comes after 25-year-old Cristyna Watson was allegedly murdered on the band last week. The suspect is a native mob gang member, Michael William Siewert, and some said the gang's presence is on the rise in the community.
"That just kind of triggered it," Organizer Bettina Johnsen said. "It's been increasing over the years and we are tired of it as a community. Our kids have to grow up here. It's scary being a parent. We have kids we have to bring up in the community, and we don't want them to go through this."
A meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. October 8 at the Fond Du Lac Community Center. People will start planning ways they can battle crime and keep people safe.
