Deadline Nears for Flood Aid Assistance Applications

Many residents have moved on since the destructive floods in June, but case managers are in Duluth, Cloquet and Moose lake to help area residents apply for disaster loans before the Oct. 15th deadline.
Case manager Adam Palan says this loan is the first step in the process. “What we're doing is signing people up for the SBA loans,” Palan says.
“Folks need to be approved and/or denied by SBA in order to get access to other pools of resources that are available,” he says.
Palan says residents should not be afraid they will be stuck with a loan payment.
“You're applying for a loan that if you can afford it it's there to help you. If you can't afford it you'll get the denial letter that's your golden ticket to other resources. So don't be scared that you're applying for a loan you can't afford,” he says.
Help centers will be available again next Saturday from 10 until 3. Case managers are also available by phone all week. Check floodhomeswithhope.org for more information.
Duluth resident Tom Cloutier says he heard about the deadline and wanted to know more.
“There's some information there that we want to take a look at it...and see if we meet the requirements and just see where it goes,” he says.
Cloutier says the case managers were very helpful and the process is shorter than you think.
“I'm going to be in the building 15 minutes so I can go out and enjoy the day. It's going to be great...and again I feel fortunate where we are. I think there's people worse off, I mean way worse off, than what I am and they should be here alongside me,” he says.
The Small Business Association loan must be applied for or other aid may be more difficult to obtain.
