Northlanders Bundle Up For Applefest in Bayfield

The 51st annual Bayfield Apple Festival kicked off October 5 drawing visitors from across the region. It's put on by the Chamber of Commerce to showcase the town's staple fruit.
“We call it a small, intimate party for about 50,000 of our closest friends,” Bayfield Mayor Larry MacDonald said. “It's apple everything: apple brats, apple cider, apple pie, apple donuts, apple jam, apple butter...apples itself.”
Downtown Bayfield was lined with booths offering many unique apple dishes. Paula Jung owns Morty's Pub and her stand serves up apple chili and apple brats.
“We put nice, big chunks of apple in our chili,” Jung said. “It's a secret recipe. I can't give it out.”
Apples always steal the show at the festival, but this year, mother nature attempted to take the spotlight. People were bundled up braving the winds equipped with warm clothing and a sense of humor.
“The palm trees probably won't be blooming this weekend,” MacDonald said.
The festival also had music and fair food. On Sunday, there will be a parade. The three-day event usually sees around 50,000 visitors.
