Plans are underway for the sporting goods retailer to open its first location in Duluth at the Miller Hill Mall.
The news was originally announced by St. Louis County because the store will be located where the county's Auditor's Service Center is currently located.
The Auditor's office is located on the east side of the mall facing Trinity Road, will move to the south side of the mall near JCPenney.
Katie Altrichter, General Manager of the Miller Hill Mall, also confirmed the arrival of the sporting goods chain, but said an opening date is still contingent on construction schedules. She said while the process of bringing Dick's into the mall is in the late planning stages, it could still be up to a year before it opens in Duluth.
Despite that, Altrichter said, "we're excited to get everything underway and started."
As for the auditor's office, St. Louis County said an exact date for the move is also based on construction for their new site.
"We looked at numerous sites, both at and away from the mall, before making a final decision on the location," said Donald Dicklich, St. Louis County Auditor. "We think the new location offers easy access and convenient parking for our customers. As an added benefit, the new site is slightly smaller than where we were, which means lower operating costs for us."
Altrichter said that Schmitt Music would also be relocating as a result of the new business. She said the music store will stay inside the building, but will soon be located across the hall from the Game Stop store near Entrance 8.
The Auditor Service Center has 13 employees and handles about 92,000 transactions each year, including motor vehicle and driver's license transactions, passport applications and tax payments, as well as transactions for the Department of Natural Resources. It has been at the mall since 2004.
It's not known how many jobs will come as a result of the arrival of Dick's. A call for comment was not answered by Dick's Sporting Goods.
