Students involved in UMD’s Democrat and Republican campus groups turned out for separate viewing parties on campus. Only about five Romney supporters showed up, but students like Ryan Bayless say they were looking for a good showing by their candidate.

“Well i'm hoping to see Romney obviously do well,” Bayless said, “I think though he needs to keep it focused on the economy if he wants to have a good debate tonight."

On the other side of campus Democrat supporters supporters had much larger numbers. Approximately 100 students and community members filled a lecture hall, and the economy was also an issue they were hoping to hear more about.

“The economy obviously, I mean getting more jobs. I'm a junior this year at UMD so i'm going to be looking at jobs and stuff like that you know in the next couple years,” Nick Bonko said.

The next debate takes place on Oct. 11th between vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Paul Ryan. Their topic is foreign policy.
