Cliffs Natural Resources has decided to take a break from negotiations for the weekend. The company confirmed Saturday morning that the have sent their negotiating teams home to spend time with their families.

There is a short term, indefinite extension in place for contracts at Cliffs' properties, including Hibbing Taconite and United Taconite. That means employees are still reporting to work like normal, even though the deadline for the old contract expired Saturday morning at midnight.

U.S. Steel and ArcelorMittal continue negotiations in Pittsburgh.

The US Steel bargaining team has told the company they will continue to work under the terms of the old contract. The team also said they do not have a proposal they are willing to bring to the membership yet, but are hopeful that the offer will be improved later Saturday.

Also on Saturday morning, the ArcelorMittal bargaining team released an update.

They said that there is NOT a contract extension in place. The team said they have not asked for one, and the company has not offered one.

On Friday, the ArcelorMittal union leadership agreed not to strike at this point, even if a deal is not reached before the deadline, which is TONIGHT at 11:59pm.

They want everyone to continue to report to work, while the continue to work on a fair contract. The team also stressed that safety is of utmost importance.
