UMD Students are Surveying the Neighborhood

These UMD grad students knocking on your door don't want to sell you something. They want to listen to your concerns. While working on their Master's in Social Work degree, the students are helping East Hillside Patch, a grassroots organization, with the project. Their goal is to survey 400 people living in the East Hillside, Central Hillside and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. "There are many organization participating in this project, eager to get the information people share about the needs they're struggling to meet, the needs that are really important to them, and what could be done in this community to make life better for them," said Cynthia Donner of East Hillside Patch. The survey has 107 questions. Residents do not need to give their name when completing the survey, and all answers are kept anonymous because it addresses a variety of issues. "It touches on all areas of living, from health to education to jobs, transportation, feelings of neighborhood safety," said Donnre. Donner understands that some people may not have the time to do the survey, but wants residents to realize that their responses could make all the difference in what programs are planned for the neighborhood. "We know time is valuable, but I can't stress enough how valuable this information is for us and other organizations." Once the data is collected and analyzed, the organizations will be holding neighborhood meetings. If you would like more information about the survey, call East Hillside Patch at 218-728-4287.
