Around 1000 Iron Range miners and their spouses have been screened for the state-funded respiratory health study.
Researchers said that's half of what they need, and the study remains on track. Folks are being asked to continue responding to the recruitment letters.
The U of MN is spearheading a series of studies to find out if mining or taconit dust leads to health problems like the deadly cancer mesothelioma.
Analysis of the results of the respiratory study will take another 18 months.
