United Way Calls for Help

The Duluth-area United Way is facing a common problem among local charities. They say that, because of the recession, more people need help and fewer people are donating. They are $280,324 below their campaign goal for this time of year, so local organizations made what they called, "an emergency plea" for help. "I can not stress to the community enough how important it is to dig deep. I know times are tight and everyone is pinching pennies, but right now the whole community really, really needs these services," said Cheyenne Vollrath, of Bethany Crisis Nursery.
Many local agencies who benefit from United Way donations are considering cutting staff and limited services if they can not pull in enough funding.
