Two people were killed and 21 others injured when the bus crossed the center median and two lanes of traffic before crashing into a ditch. The group was on its way back to Rochester, after a one-day casino trip to Iowa. The accident happened just after 3:00 p.m., two miles west of Austin. Today, investigators are looking for answers and trying to reconstruct the accident to determine what caused the driver to swerve off the clear, dry interstate freeway. Then, less than two hours after the fatal crash, ten people were injured in Rochester when a Wabasha-Kellogg school bus and a car collided. Eight students received non-life threatening injuries from the crash. The driver of the car and his passenger had serious, but non-life threatening injuries. A Gold Cross ambulance was en route to the school bus crash, when, only two minutes later, the ambulance collided with a car. Both cars collided with two more cars, leaving two people hospitalized from that crash. Finally, about an hour later in nearby Byron, firefighters rescued a 21-year-old Rochester woman and her baby after the woman's car plunged into the Zumbro river. Both were uninjured. |
