Bridge Collapse Settlement

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Attorneys say a construction company that was working on the Minneapolis bridge when it collapsed in 2007 have settled lawsuits filed by victims.

Progressive Contractors Inc. was doing resurfacing work when the bridge collapsed, killing 13 people. Hennepin County Judge Deborah Hedlund, who approved the settlement Friday, said financial terms wouldn't be released.

Chris Messerly, an attorney for victims, says the families believed the settlement was in their best interests. An attorney for PCI didn't immediately respond to a phone message.

A federal investigation cited faulty design as the key reason for the collapse, but it also noted that the weight of construction materials was a contributing factor. Other lawsuits are still pending.
