Updated at: 11/06/2009 11:59 AM Free Parking Downtown?Parking in downtown Duluth could get a lot cheaper. Free, in fact, at parking meters and city run ramps, if the city council approves a resolution. The proposal stems from Bentleyville being at Bayfront. The business community wants to encourage people to come down, and free parking would be helpful. The original resolution calls for free parking at meters and city ramps, from 5pm-12am, from November 27-January 2. That time period is when Bentleyville is open. Councilor Jeff Anderson wants to take it a step further, and open it up to free parking 365 days a year, from 5:30pm-6am. Businesses and citizens seemed to like the idea on Thursday. "It would help our customers, and our employees, who pay a lot to park here and go to work," said Pizza Luce front house manager Nikki Moeller. "I think it's great. It will help the tourists who come to Duluth," said Nick Yagoda. The council will consider the proposal on Monday night. |
