Deer Hunting Preps: Siting in Rifles

The Minnesota gun deer opener is just three days away, hunters are busy getting ready. "That line is hot, go ahead and shoot when you're ready," instructs Kevin Stern from the United Northern Sportsmen's Club. "I quit chasing whiskey and women and now I chase deer, it's the only safe thing to chase," said Duluthian Ron Lillo.

On Saturday, the chase is on. Minnesota hunters are preparing for the firearms deer opener. United Northern Sportsman's Club in Duluth is open the full week before the opener, allowing the public to prepare their firearms. "It's very important to make sure that you're making a clean shot on the animal so it's not suffering," said Stern.

Ron Lillo and Ron Rodriguez, Deacons at Faith Baptist in Hermantown, know the importance of accurate an gun. "Over the years I've heard of so many people that don't even sight their rifle in before rifle season and it's like duh," said Lillo. "The whole goal was to of course have our rounds go exactly where we're pointing the rifles, and the end result is to humanly harvest deer," said Ron Rodriguez.

And for the Ron's, who are not only brothers in faith but brothers in law, hunting is a chance to be with family. "It's just a great opportunity for us to be together, all family and just enjoying creation, enjoying what we've been given, the blessings we have," added Rodriguez. "I've just been doing it all my life, it's just part of life in the Northwoods, that's what we do," said Lillo.

Ron and Ron hope to be blessed with opportunities in the woods this weekend. "Your in your stand and you see a deer. The outside of you has to be very calm, the inside of you is going, oh my gosh a deer," finished Rodriguez.
