Murder/Suicide Investigation

On Monday, Washburn County investigators pieced together evidence from what they believe to be a murder-suicide.

According to the Sheriff's Department-- the body of David W. Palm, 43, was found Saturday night-- in his burned home at 1332 Road F in Birchwood, Wisconsin. Authorities say based on his wounds and evidence found at the scene, they believe he was the victim of a homicide.

Then on Saturday morning, nearly 15 hours later and some 30 miles away, authorities in Washburn County found a smoldering fire on a piece of land on Highway A, near Spooner.

Among the ashes there was a deceased male. Sawyer County authorities say they believe that man is responsible for killing David Palm the night before. The suspect's body was badly burned, so authorities are waiting to release his name until positive identification.

A neighbor told Eyewitness News that she is having a hard time grasping what officials say happened. In fact, the man she knew was a good person she says-- who was willing to help anyone.

According to the Sheriff's Department, it is too early to speculate a motive-- however it is believed that Palm and the alleged suspect knew each other.
