Hit and Run: Victim in Critical But Stable Condition

Duluth Police are investigating a pedestrian injury hit and run crash that happened this morning at 2:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Rice Lake Road, just north of Campus Park Townhomes.  The 18-year-old male victim was walking south on the shoulder of Rice Lake Rd with three other friends when he was struck by a vehicle also headed south.  After striking the victim, the vehicle left the scene south on Rice Lake Road. 

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Alexander Michael Balluff of Oak Grove, Minnesota. Balluff was transported to St. Mary's with life-threatening injuries. He is now listed in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The suspect vehicle is a newer black smaller SUV, possibly a Honda, black in color.  The vehicle will have damage to the passenger side front and possibly to the passenger side hood as well as a broken off passenger side mirror.

Anyone with information is asked to call Duluth Police Crash Investigator Ryan Morris at 218-730-5655.  If anyone observes/finds a vehicle matching the description with passenger side damage, they are asked to call 911.  If possible, please get license plate information of the vehicle.
