Iron Range Resources: Grants for Redevelopment
Iron Range Resources today announced the awarding of 11 Commercial Community Redevelopment grants totaling $805,000 for the demolition and removal of commercial buildings, publicly owned structures and brownfield site cleanup within the Taconite Assistance Area. The grants are awarded to create space for potential new development or reuse.
Communities that receive grants contribute funding from other sources in a partnership with Iron Range Resources. The $805,000 in grants leverages over $3.6 million in project costs and more than $6.3 million in new development.
Introduced in fiscal year 2008, the Commercial Community Redevelopment Grants Program demonstrates a commitment to partnerships in the removal of commercial blight and slum, improving neighborhoods and main streets with new construction, development or new business.
A companion program, the Residential Community Redevelopment Program, assists cities and townships in eliminating blighted or hazardous residential buildings such as houses or garages.
