Updated at: 10/29/2009 9:56 AM Petter's Trial BeginsBoxes full of documents were wheeled into the courtroom for the first day of the trial against Twin Cities businessman Tom Petters. Petters is accused of bilking investors out of $3.65 billion in a Ponzi Scheme. A jury was seated Wednesday morning and by afternoon, opening statements were read. The prosecutor said Petters stole billions of dollars "so he could live the life of a corporate tycoon." The defense contends Petters was unaware of what his subordinates were doing. |
